Adult Bible Fellowship Class: "The Sermon on the Mount"

The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7): A Recipe for Christian Counter-culture.

Renowned 20th century theologian John Stott described Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7) as the nearest thing to a manifesto for His followers that Jesus ever uttered. Others have labeled it one of the more controversial passages in the New Testament because of the divisive interpretations that can be (and have been) applied to it. The objective of our study is to explore the “Sermon’s” meaning in the context of what Matthew’s Gospel itself reveals about what his inspired purpose was in writing it. Dick Chase will be leading a discussion of the individual principal verses in the text that bear upon, or in which Christ presents, His message. The first Sunday will be Introductory, the second session will focus on chapter 5 ( the Beatitudes), and the third & fourth on chapters 6 & 7 and conclusions.

Taught by Dick Chase in the Library at 9:30 am
